New outfit

Today Henry fit into the outfit that Thompson Tooze McLean and Elkin got him. Hopefully it will stay clean of icing from Giles' bday cupcakes!

Photos from Halifax are on the old school camera and still have to be developed.

Off to LA tomorrow, fingers crossed these flights go as well as the last ones.

Kidney Reflux: Grade One

Kidney reflux is graded into five categories according to severity, with one being the least severe and five being the most severe. Henry only has Grade 1 Kidney Reflux.

What is Kidney Reflux
Each kidney has a tube called a ureter. Urine leaves the kidneys via the ureters and enters the bladder for temporary storage. There is a valve at the meeting point between each ureter and the bladder to prevent the backflow of urine into the kidneys. Kidney reflux means that one (or both) of these valves is not working properly. During urination, the urine travels (refluxes) up the affected ureter to the kidney instead of flowing out of the body. This increases the likelihood of infections and other problems.

He will require one daily dose of antibiotics until the valves hopefully correct/grow themselves. He will go for another VCUG in Feb/March to find out is there has been any progress. The doctor changed the antibiotic and we had to go to Sick Kids to get it!!! Since Shoppers doesn't carry it we are not risking losing it by packing it in out luggage tomorrow, it is going carry-on - that should be fun!! With any luck this antibiotic won't taste as bad and Henry and I can stop fighting in the mornings:)

Just because

This is what I do when I hang out with Daddy.

The change table

The Great One

Henry is feeling much better, I know this because he has finally reverted back to waking up after 7:00am...at least for three days in a row.

VCUG

Henry went for the VCUG test today and hardly cried at all. It was a major relief for mum who thought we were in for as many tears as the last time. Results will come back on Tuesday.

Henry did a random roll-over yesterday (front to back). I think it was a fluke, as I've been testing him every half and hour and he hasn't been able to do it again :)

He was also weighed at the doctor's today...12 lbs 12 oz.

August Long Weekend

In the middle of deck-making we took a trip to Hamilton for a dip in the pool. The dopey eyes is post-medicine feeding and the rocking horse toy is once home and showing off his closed-eyed smile :)

Deck making 101

Started on Saturday, mostly finished on Monday (with a little swim in Hamilton on Sunday).

Addicted to my soother

It was a great weekend of camping and music at the Hillside Festival at Guelph Lake, unfortunately Henry got extremely sick at the end of the weekend. As new parents we weren't sure if we could distinguish between Henry's cries but it soon became extremely obvious that his cry on Sunday night was one of distress. So we ended up at Sick Kids Hospital and he had a fever of 39.9, enough for us to get immediate attention.

He was diagnosed with a Urinary Tract Infection and spent a few days in the hospital (some at Sick Kids, some at St. Joseph's). He was poked and prodded - not very nice for any of us - and when trying to take blood the nurse asked, "does mummy have a soother?" the soother was immediately Henry's new best friend!!! Before going in he was really enjoying sucking his thumb, now he is lost without his soother (see photos).

Now we wait and see if the UTI was just bad luck or if it was caused by something called Kidney Reflux which would require further treatment. He has to be fed antiboitics until we find out which will be on the 15th of August...just in time to head to Nationals in Halifax.

Henry is very happy to be home and mum and dad are very happy to have him home again!
